Build Goal
Firebrand is a burning-focused Guardian build that uses Tome of Justice for damage, Tome of Resolve for healing and condition cleanse, and Tome of Courage for defensive support. The main goal is to weave Tome skills together with weapon skills to keep constant Burning pressure on enemies.
Tomes
Firebrand replaces the normal F1-F3 profession skills with three Tomes. When you activate a Tome, your skill bar changes into new Tome skills. Each Tome has a different role.
- Tome of Justice — damage through Burning.
- Tome of Resolve — healing and condition cleanse.
- Tome of Courage — defensive boons and projectile reflection.
Most Tome skills consume 1 Page. Some Epilogue skills consume 2 Pages, so do not waste Pages unless you need the effect.
- Epilogue: Ashes of the Just — strong Burning damage and Might, even better near allies.
- Chapter 2: Igniting Burst — great melee-range Burning damage.
- Chapter 4: Scorched Aftermath — strong damage and a fire combo field.
- Chapter 3: Heated Rebuke — circular pull that can group enemies together.
Damage
The key to Firebrand is weaving Tome skills with your weapon skills. Spend most of your Pages inside Tome of Justice, especially on Ashes of the Just, Igniting Burst, and Scorched Aftermath.
You can precast Epilogue: Ashes of the Just before starting a fight. If you are using spirit weapons like Sword of Justice, the effect can also help add extra Burning pressure.
Weapon Priority
Axe / Torch
- Symbol of Vengeance — strong pressure skill.
- Zealot’s Flame — important Burning setup.
- Zealot’s Fire — follow-up damage after Zealot’s Flame.
- Blazing Edge — useful damage and crowd control.
- Cleansing Flame — strong Burning damage.
Pistol / Pistol
- Symbol of Ignition — very powerful, but only use it when you can follow up.
- Hail of Justice — use after Symbol of Ignition is active.
- Jurisdiction — strong damage and crowd control.
- Peacekeeper — good Burning pressure.
Do not use Hail of Justice if you do not have an active Symbol of Ignition. If everything is on cooldown, fill with auto-attacks.
Utility Skills
- Purging Flames — use off cooldown for Burning damage and condition cleanse.
- Mantra of Flame — use charges often for extra damage.
- Mantra of Potence — use off cooldown for Quickness.
- “Feel My Wrath!” — use off cooldown for Quickness.
- Mantra of Solace — use carefully to trigger Liberator’s Vow. Do not spam all charges.
Boons
- Use Mantra of Potence and “Feel My Wrath!” for Quickness.
- Use Mantra of Solace to help trigger Liberator’s Vow.
- If Quickness uptime feels low, consider using Stalwart Speed.
- Alacrity helps your mantra cooldowns line up better, but it does not reduce trait cooldowns.
Defense
- Tome of Resolve gives healing and condition cleanse.
- Chapter 4: Shining River gives pulse healing and a large water field.
- Epilogue: Eternal Oasis increases incoming healing and converts conditions into boons.
- Tome of Courage gives defensive boons and projectile protection.
- Chapter 3: Valiant Bulwark creates a projectile reflection bubble.
- Epilogue: Unbroken Lines gives extra defense, Aegis, and Stability to nearby allies.
Crowd Control
- Blazing Edge
- Chapter 3: Heated Rebuke
- Chapter 2: Daring Challenge
- Jurisdiction
- Hammer of Wisdom
- Bane Signet
Tips
- Use Tome of Justice mainly for damage.
- Use Ashes of the Just, Igniting Burst, and Scorched Aftermath as your main Tome damage skills.
- Use Heated Rebuke to pull enemies together before bursting.
- Use Purging Flames off cooldown.
- Do not waste Pages if you might need healing or defense soon.
- Use Tome of Resolve when you need healing or cleanse.
- Use Tome of Courage when you need Stability, Aegis, or projectile defense.
